The Sachsenring Circuit forecast is looking quite similar to that of TT Circuit Assen last weekend with fluctuations predicted to occur day to day. Partly cloudy skies on Friday would start the weekend off with cooler circuit conditions as less radiation traveling from the sun makes its way to the asphalt.
Similar to last weekend, skies should be clearing on Saturday, resulting in a hot hot hot qualifying day. Not only will riders feel the affects in the air temperature, but clear skies will have a direct impact on circuit temperature. With the asphalt absorbing the incoming solar radiation all morning, circuit temperatures will continue to rise and stay elevated throughout the afternoon as the ground begins to release energy in the form of long wave radiation (AKA heat).
As if a fluctuation from free practice to qualifying isn’t already tough enough, riders may have to re-think their optimal tire choice as they head into race day. Potentially cloudy skies on Sunday morning opening up to clear skies in the mid afternoon will delay the circuit temperature elevation and result in cooler conditions then Saturday.
We’ve seen a handful of riders struggle with tire choice so far this season and as we know, this can make or break a race performance. All eyes ahead as the teams travel to Germany for the last race before a well deserved summer break!
Happy wheelie Wednesday!
